Everything You Need
To Know Before Your
Waxing Appointment
The weeks and days before your waxing appointment are crucial to the success of your waxing hair removal, preventing ingrown hairs, and reducing pain.
About Body Waxing Services

What are the most common places to wax for men?
Back and shoulder waxing is by far the most common waxing appointment for men. Many men want that hairless look on their back and like to avoid the extra heat associated with back hair. In addition, men usually want to avoid shaving their back because it just keeps growing back faster.
After back waxing, it’s chest, legs, face, and brazilian waxes. Brazilian waxes are usually the appointments that many men are hesitant about because of the pain associated with waxing and the sensitivity of their private areas.

What are the most common places to wax for women?
Women usually have less hair (and require less wax) than men so you’ll find that waxing prices will be less expensive. The most common waxing procedures include brazilians, bikini waxes, facial waxes, leg waxes, and underarms. Depending on the amount of body hair elsewhere such as your back, stomach, nipples, arms, and other areas, women often add these procedures on to decrease the hair growth to those areas as well.

What About DIY Compared To Professional Waxing?
When it comes to hair removal, there are two very basic options: do the hair removal yourself or consult an expert. If you're new to waxing, it might be less stressful for you to start with a professional who will work to make your experience as pleasant as possible, giving you the absolute best results.
DIY or at-home waxing can be effective, but it depends on the quality of your materials and your technique. This type of waxing can also certainly affect the length between waxes. If you go to a specialist, they are trained in waxing and will likely wax several times a day. This means they can be more accurate with their technique and likely have high-quality materials. For example, at Wax Worx, I spent several months finding the exact perfect wax company to work with that met my standards of ingredients and quality results. If you make your own wax and haven't done it often, you could end up with even more hair breakage. Breakage occurs when the wax does not pull out all the hair at the root, but falls apart on the surface. This means that hair grows faster.

Professionals usually have extra products to numb and smooth your skin before, during, and after your wax appointment. For example, at Wax Worx we have several products that help numb your skin before a wax and soothly post-wax creams to help any sensitivity after your wax.
Pre-Wax Requirements
Before booking your appointment, be sure to review what contraindications there are with waxing. There could be contraindications such as oral medications you're taking, creams or skin care you're using, and more. For example, are you planning on using exfoliants, retinol, or other skincare products before a facial wax? Check out the contraindications with waxing, in English and Spanish.

48 hours before your appointment is a great time to start exfoliating your skin gently. It’s crucial to also check all the potential contraindications before your waxing appointment. It’s very common for clients interested in skincare to forget they are using skin care products that interfere with waxing.
On the day of your appointment, you should shower before dewaxing to clean and clean the skin of the area you want to shave very gently, but since dry skin can help the wax adhere better to the hairs you want to remove, it's important not to apply it.
During your Waxing Appointment
Does waxing hurt?
Because you are pulling the hair out of the follicles in the opposite direction of its growth, the hair removal process can be unpleasant or even painful. A professional will use their experience and technique to better reduce discomfort, but you should still be prepared for some slight, brief discomfort.

What can I do to reduce the pain of waxing?
At Wax Worx, we have preventative pre-wax numbing lotion available for purchase. The way this works is you pick up the cream earlier than your appointment and apply the cream the same day as your appointment according to the instructions on the bottle. By the time your appointment arrives, your skin will be ready for waxing.

How long does a waxing appointment take?
Waxing can be a quick process when working with a professional, but it also depends on how much hair you have, the technique being used, and the quality of the wax. Depending on the area to be removed and the amount of hair in that area, a complete epilation usually takes less than an hour. The hairs need to be at least an inch long to hold the wax properly, so it's important not to shave the area right before waxing. On the other hand, very long hair – isn’t ideal either, so limiting the hair to an inch is a better plan (which can be taken of with a trimmer).
Here are some example appointment times:
-
Underarms 10 minutes
-
Full back 30 minutes
-
Half arms 20 minutes
-
Brazilian 15-35 minutes
-
Bikini Line 15 minutes
-
Half legs 15 minutes

What to do after your waxing appointment:
After your waxing appointment, ask your waxer about which lotions you should avoid or use. Many of my clients use pure aloe vera to soothe their skin if they have irritation, but it’s crucial to avoid any fragrances or chemicals that will irritate your skin.
Other than that be sure to not cause too much excessive activity 24-48 hours after including sexual activity during that time as well to avoid any risk for infection or irritation. Try to wear lose clothes after your appointment and you’ll be good to go!
Following these instructions will help ensure you'll avoid skin irritation or ingrown hairs.
How To Get Long-Lasting Waxing Results
How Long Do The Results Last?
Results last depending on several factors. It depends on how fast your hair grows and how dark your hair is. It usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks. Once your hair is at least an inch long, you can go for another wax. In the meantime, be careful and avoid shaving - this can lead to more itchiness, irritation or hair growth.
If you follow a monthly waxing plan, you will likely find that waxing is easier and less painful. If you don't stick to the schedule, you will interrupt the hair growth cycle and have to start over. That means it might be more painful the next time you get a wax.

What Factors Influence How Regrowth Occurs?
Hormones, diet, and your DNA can all influence your personal hair growth cycle. A normal balance of hormones means stronger, healthier hair. So, if you have a hormonal imbalance, it can negatively affect the speed and texture of your hair. Hormonal imbalances disorders are more common than you might think, at Wax Worx, I have several patients with differing conditions including PCOS.
Your diet can also affect hair growth. To take care of hair growth, experts recommend a balanced diet, rich in fish, vitamin C, zinc, biotin, niacin, and iron. Also, your genetic makeup can make your hair growth look different from your friend's hair growth. It is also believed that complete epilation can make hair thinner and slower. So the longer you shave, the longer it will be and the less it will hurt.
